On my trip to Michoacan, Mexico, i visited the island of Janitzio ( HA-NEAT-CEE-OH ). Visiting the island Required traveling by boat to the island of course! While getting on the boat the only seating available was on the sides of the boat and some wooden boxes. After everyone is seated there are various people boarding, from as young as 8 years old and as old as, well I am not even sure how old. What are they doing on the boat? Working. From selling you chewing gun, cookies, bread, chips, nuts, or even telling you how to say " I Love You" in their native language which is PUREHPECHA, a dying dialect famously known in the state of Michoacan. Apart from learning a dying dialect, there are also musicians on board of the boat, this is how they make a living, they ride all day in the boat from as early as it opens until it closes at about 6:00pm. so in some way or another they did their 8 hour work day, but just getting enough money home to have something to eat! Living in the United States i have seen how picky people are when it comes to eating, and the sad thing is they are picky about which hamburger joint they do or do not want to eat at, whether to eat at McDonalds or at Burger King. what has our society come to? Well i guess that does explain the massive amount of obesity in the U.S. so with that note: Whats for Dinner?
